I just updated the system again and it pulled pacman 3.0.3-2 but I still
have the same problem.
what should the permissions be on /usr/man/ ?
this is what I have

drwxr-xr-x  53 root root 4.0K 2007-04-28 09:36 man/

isnt' read and execute enough to use man pages?
