That might be possible, but at the same time, it's almost needless complication.

I think we might be able to get away with providing the deps as Dan
suggests, or even a special package with the static binary and support
files so that users can still upgrade from 2.X to 3.0 for a while...

Hmmm, I think we need to think about this upgrade path just a tad more.
