If possible please try to keep at least two kernels. I have two kernels 
installed and _never_ update both at the same time - really convenient way to 
fix things if something goes wrong. I'm not saying that something does often 
but it is good to keep 2 just in case, especially that from the user 
perspective additional effort is minimal.
