Hi LeeAnn

Welcome to the Arches forum. It's great to hear that the ASOR Syrian Heritage
Initiative project plans to use Arches to create an inventory of cultural
resources in Syria.

In Arches version 3.0 the Condition information theme will be expanded to
include recording disturbances, threats, and management recommendations in
addition to the current overall condition rating. This set of condition
information will be set up to record on a monitoring basis (i.e., all
information will be recorded for a specific point in time), with the ability to
record as many monitoring events as needed. Of course the Condition information
theme could be customized to add additional detail if that is desired.

In the demo version of Arches (version 1.0) you will first need a username and
password to be able to create a monitoring activity. If you don't already have
these credentials, you can request them by going to the "See Arches" button on
the Arches project website and then clicking on the "requesting a username and
password" link. Once you have those credentials and logging in, you could add a
monitoring event by going to Add/Edit Resource, then adding a Management
Activity resource. When creating the Management Activity resource, you can
classify it by selecting the Classification and Dating theme and selecting
Field Observation (Monitoring) as the activity type. You could then select the
Related Resources information theme and relate the activity created to a
particular heritage resource (or resources) in Arches, such as a particular
archaeological site. Arches version 3.0 will also provide a more
straightforward way of relating resources to each other and will include
enhanced functionality for adding (including through drag and drop) related
Information Resources (e.g., images, documents), which could be detailed
condition reports or images showing conditions.

Among many other enhancements, Arches version 3.0 will also include a new
Reference Data Manager for managing and editing all dropdown lists or thesauri
in the system.

Let me know if any of this is not clear.

Best regards,

David Myers

Hi everyone,

I thought that I read somewhere that the upcoming Arches v 3.0 might have an
expanded "Condition" theme that would include Risk Assessments and Management
Recommendations. Can anyone confirm this, or elaborate the upcoming changes
related to the condition assessment section? Also, Phil, could you elaborate on
how one would add a condition assessment "Activity"? I've tried to follow your
instructions in the demo version am not sure how this would work.

much thanks in advance!
