I am against banning attachments, as they can often be useful during discussions. While google drive and other services can be used by many, some of us here on this list including myself are barred by network policies of using or connecting to such services, as they can be used to leak confidential data. Therefore, this would leave me out of any discussions involving attachments, as I likely would be blocked from downloading them.

The true problem here was a member of the list forwarding one of their spams to the list, which included the original email address. This is the issue that we need to be more careful with. If someone continues to have an issue with forwarding spam, consider removing that person from the list, but please do not forbid attachments. For safety, I often remove everything from the To and CC except for the list address, so I know the message will not travel beyond the list.

I have been here for a bit over a year, and this is the first spam attack that I have seen on the iist. I can always hope it will be the last.

I read email in text based pine, and would have to specifically download the images to ever be subjected to them. However, based on the body, they look like the same type of subscription spam that Craigslist used to have before they shut down their personals section. The sender uses auto replies and different email addresses for the reply to address in an attempt to fake a 2 way conversation with a victim, trying to get them to sign up for a verification site of which the spammer has an affiliate relationship.

This has not happened much since I have been here, and I think as professionals that if we can be careful, it will not remain an issue.

+1 no attachments

If you need to share an image please link to one of the many free image
hosting services. Some other binary file can be hosted with another
service (Google Drive, MS Drive, Dropbox, Box, etc).

I would have to agree with others, most email lists I am a part of,
especially of this type, do not allow attachments these days.

Please moderate the list. I don't want to unsub.

1. Slow down the train.

2. Marilson, the correct answer is: "I'm sorry. It won't happen again."
I get that you don't like spam. I don't like spam either. Forwarding a
spam with potentially pornographic content to this mailing list was a
real bonehead move. If you can't accept that it was an error, perhaps
you should be removed from this list.

3. Is there any compelling reason why this mailing list should permit
attachments in the first place? Can we not express our thoughts with
words?

Bill Herrin
