Did ARIN ever handle the Sole Proprietor Business that uses his SS Number as
his business number?
In other words no name on file with Secretary of State.

Organization ID/Org ID

I still think this proposal misses the mark. I still don't understand why this
term needs to be defined in policy rather than in operational process.

The proposed text says:

" An Organization Identifier (Org ID) is a unique text label that represents a
business, nonprofit corporation, or government entity in the ARIN database."

If you follow the web site from "Requesting IP Addresses or ASNs" the first
sentence is " All resource requests require an [
https://www.arin.net/resources/guide/account/ | ARIN Online account ] linked to
either an [
https://www.arin.net/resources/guide/account/records/poc/#creating-a-poc |
Admin or Tech Point of Contact (POC) record ] with the authority to request
resources for a valid Organization Identifier (Org ID)." Follow the ARIN Online
link to a page that says:
"An Org ID represents a business, nonprofit corporation, or government entity
in the ARIN database. The Org ID is defined by a legal name, postal address,
and points of contact."

So the term is already defined on the web site in exactly the proposed words.

There's no such field in the ARIN database. There's a "Full Name" and a
"Handle" in the Org object, e.g. [
https://search.arin.net/rdap/?query=ARINOPS&searchFilter=entity |
https://search.arin.net/rdap/?query=ARINOPS&searchFilter=entity ] . There's
also an "Address", and related POC objects. Which one is the Org ID? Or is it
the concatenation of all of those (since " The Org ID is defined by a legal
name, postal address, and points of contact.") ?

I think we mean the Handle when we say Org ID, but you could never guess that
from the definition.

Please, let us try to use consistent language so somebody new to the process
can understand it.

Thanks,

Lee

Draft Policy ARIN-2024-1: Definition of Organization ID/Org ID

Problem Statement:

During work on a related policy proposal, the NRPM Working Group determined
that a definition of Organization Identifier (Org ID) should be included in the
NRPM to add clarity to the term and unify NRPM references to match the use of
the term in other ARIN publications such as ARIN online.

Policy Statement:

Current: None

Proposed:

Section 2.18. Organization Identifier (Org ID)

An Organization Identifier (Org ID) is a unique text label that represents a
business, nonprofit corporation, or government entity in the ARIN database.

Comments:

This definition had previously been included in an earlier policy proposal
(ARIN-2023-7), but community feedback recommendations on that proposal showed a
preference for adding the definition separately from that proposal. As such the
definition is now being proposed as a standalone proposal, and the language
will be removed from the current ARIN-2023-7 proposal, allowing the two
sections of that proposal to be evaluated separately.

Timetable for Implementation: Immediate
