If you need to boot from the SD card anyway it won't help much. It might be worth trying to enable watchdog in u-boot so the board reboots automatically if the boot fails. >From the but report it sounds like the mmc boot is not reliable byt succeeds at least sometimes so the watchdog may make it boot eventually.
