People will accept the Euro, because it will be the only
legal tender in the Euro countries as of 2002. So the
success has been largely determined in advance.
One thing will change regarding coinage (at least in this
neck of the woods). Dutch Gulders us a 10-25-50 arithmatic,
while the Euro will use 10-20-50.
Example: We have now coins for 5, 10 and 25 cents, en 1, 2.5
and 5 guilders. Notes come in 10, 25, 50, 100, 250 etc...
sizes.
With the Euro we will have to get used to 1, 5, 10 and _20_
eurocent coins, and 1 and _2_ euro coins. Notes will be 5,
10, 20, 50, 200 etc..
This means that people and shopkeepers will have to learn
calculating the most efficient change to give back all over
again. I expect Dutch people to be carrying more change in
the first months of 2002 then usual. But probably not in
their pockets :-)
