Hi all,
I would like to share two of my favourite
songs, the same film "MEENAXI".
If any one can remember, it is a film from M F
HUSSAIN and the music is from the LEGENDARY ........A. R.
RAHMAN.......
I have gathered some of the reviews about these
songs. The common speciality of these songs are the "HARKATS" i.e. the same
line/word is sung for four to eight times repeatedly but altogether in different
ways i.e. in different Harkat. Hats off to A R Rahman for
that............(A.R. Rahman…a man
who breathes music…speaks music…lives music… )
1.
YEH RISHTA
: A new singer Reena
Bhardwaj arrives - and she does this with style! 'Yeh Rishta' is a
marvelous track that boasts of great vocals, wonderful music, pleasant locales,
breath-taking cinematography and thoughtful lyrics! The track has variations and
the singer does full justice to the nuances and subtlety of the track. This is
another superb number by Rehman after a long-long time since 'Saathiya'.
"Yeh Rishta" brings out the sweet and
everlasting bond of natural colors with human emotions. Rahat Indori's
well-narrated lyrics make this one of the soulful compositions of our times. A
voice of pouring water and echoing voices in the background creates an air of
serenity. New talent Reema Bharadwaj has certainly sparkled in his debut
composition, as she can have bright prospects in future.
The album opens up with Reena Bhardwaj's solo
number 'Yeh Rishta'. Rahman's usage of the guitar, violin and tabla are
apparent in the initial parts of the song, and are used to carry the listener
through a seeming beautiful number that reminds one of a song set in nature.
Reena's musical rendition extends skillfully as well and sounds beautifully
innocent. Rahat Inodri's lyrics set the mood of the song and form a haunting
backdrop for Rahman's sound.
Yeh Rishta is the first shot of Meenaxi and
is Tabu’s solo entrance piece. The song starts off on a beautiful note and never
lets down. The beautiful note is the voice of debutant Reena Bharadwaj.
Her opening line, and the opening of her career, is as soothing as running water
and just bewilders you. Her rendition of the entire track is superb, but in
particular the feeling with which she sings the title line “Yeh Rishta Kya
kehe laata hai” is perfect. Speaking of perfect, A.R. Rahman simply amazes!
The way he builds the beat of a tabla-like drum throughout the entire song is
uncanny and sets a pace at which Reena sings with ease. Reaching a midpoint in
the song, begins the unique integration of strings, supplied nicely by John Themis. To top it all off, Rahman superimposes a
synthesized beat into the background that only adds to the flavor of this
colorful track. Just when you think that it can’t get any better, the Genius
adds the sound of flowing water to accompany Reena Bharadwaj, creating the most
peaceful effect. Lyrically, Rahat Indori pens
some very meaningful lines. Throughout the album, he proves to be a top-notch
lyricist by bringing words and emotions to life. An interesting tid-bit to add
to this number is that Rahman requested Reena to give an audition in his studio
apartment in London and ended up recording the scratch version in his kitchen!
That’s Mr. Rahman for you…doesn’t get his nutrition from food, but from his
music!
. The first song, "Yeh Rishta'' sung by
Reena Bhardwaj, transcends us into the world of Meenaxi
In the midst of the song, water is used as music
which marks the unconventionality of A.R. Rehman's style. And we hum
along the lines of Yeh Rishta Kya Kelhata Hai.
2. DO
KADAM :
With 'Do Kadam Aur Sahi', Sonu nigam sings his third straight
quality song after the title song of 'Kal Ho Na Ho' and 'Ek Saathi Aur
Bhi Tha' from 'LOC Kargil'. A soft number, it is a nice song to be crooned
to your beloved. Rahat Indori's lyrics are fantastic which are truly
complimented by Rehman. A wonderfully composed track, Sonu Nigam is at his
restrained best and is in total control with this one.
"Do Kadam Aur Sahi" epitomizes the ocean of fantasy
when we move two steps towards infinite destination of love and desire. The song
is undoubtedly the best composition and brings out the lethal combination of
Sonu Nigam's vocal brilliance and Rehman's enormous musical genius. Sonu's
mystical and magical performance puts it in the cadre of his award winning
"Saathiya" composition. Rahat Indori's finest lyrics come out as this has
beautifully knitted the imagination of lovers with colors of life. Soul stirring
musical effects lifts the spirits and sprays fragrance of love and passion in
air. The song will certainly find place in all the prestigious awards ceremony
since this will go with masses as well as with classes.
One of the most outstanding songs in the sea of
many is Sonu Nigam's 'Do Kadam Aur Sahi'. This song, unlike the other
songs of the same album, relies almost completely on Sonu's vocal range and
talent. The lyrical value provided by Rahat Inodri is classy and brilliant not
overpoweringly so. While feeling almost like 'Nahin Samne' from Rahman's classic
TAAL, this song truly has a life of its own, thanks to Sonu's soulful
rendition.
M.F. Hussain originally titled this film Do Kadam Aur Sahi, but as time progressed he believed that Meenaxi suited the film better. Before the switch, Rahman had already composed the what-would-have-been title track. Undoubtedly this is the best track of the album. If you thought that Sonu Nigam sounded nice in the title track of Kal Ho Naa Ho then be prepared to be surprised because Sonu Nigam has really out done himself this time. A.R. Rahman always has a way of bringing out the best of people as he did with Sonu in their previous hit together, Saathiya. This song will definitely appeal to the masses as well as the classes. Set to the lush scenery of Jaisalmer and Prague, this piece should create an even more peaceful and resounding effect, if that’s even conceivable. The beauty in this piece lies in it’s vocal-musical melding. Rahman doesn’t add a single “hard” beat, yet he creates an evenly symmetrical rhythm that flows nicely. Overlapping, is Sonu Nigam’s rendition, as pure as can be, and really does raise the feeling and emotion of the song greatly. The line Do Kadam Aur Sahi has such a simple yet catchy melody that Sonu’s voice will literally be stuck in your ears and hearts for days on end. Rahat Indori’s words are extremely touching. He writes on a place not too far away, a place where everything is shining bright with light, a place where hearts are filled with freely glowing flames and where love is all-pervasive. A land just a few more steps away…I promise you, your heart will skip a beat while listening to this spectacle of sound. the musical magic continues with the song " Do Kadam" breaking the
rhythm of the second song. This song sung by Sonu Nigam, is a more
romantic, slow song.
Rehman's arrangements are superb to hear and one wonders what had gone really wrong in his earlier not-so-inspiring scores in 'Tehzeeb' and 'Lakeer', which carried lackluster and plain average musical scores respectively. Rehman is back with his vintage touch in Meenaxi hence his fans should have enough reasons to go for this one. Plz listen to the song...,if possible
Regards,
thanx
