Alex Kumar, ARR is in fact one of the driving forces in Indian cinema today, apart form the established directors like Mani Ratnam, Shankar, Subhash Ghai, Sham Benegal, MF Husain and Ashutosh Gowariker.....His music plays a big part in how movies are made...dont u remember how his music to an extent had changed the way movies were made? it is because of ARR that big budget movies were made by Shankar during the 90s in the hope that the music may offset a box office flop or add to its success....Even now the numerous ARR "spinoff" MDs are depended upoun by the directors...Shankar wouldnt have made Anniyan possible if Harris was not making ARR-like music.....But ARR has a responsible part to play...he can offer to make movies with strong valuable intellectual content like ROja or Bombay, thus forcing directors to put more effort in their stories to cnvince ARR to make music...I mean ARR initially had this thinking when he started...but seriously speaking Sj Suryah's movies like Vaali are nowhere close to vasanth's 1995 thriller Aasai....They simply lack the strong characterisation in the movies made by these old time etablished directors....Sj Surya's characters seem pretty shallow, ordinary and mainstream..The reason Vaali became a hit could be cause of the music and the cast -Simran and Ajith..2 very hot stars of the 90s.But nobody is going to remember Vaali as musch as Roja, Bombay, Indian or Gentleman..The state of Indian cienma now is not very good compared to the past...They sare ruined by uncreative, irritating dance scenes, dialogues, shallow performances by cast and uninteresting repeated storylines all packaged in new coulourful gimmicks and technology...How many times have we seen Vijay doing a Thirumalai or Sachin? how many times have we seen Ajit doing a REd or Dheena.....its allt he same ....tamil cienam is now stuck in a monotonous rut
