distinguished guests in honor of their accomplishments.
The special edition, 152-paged Limca Book of Records - India Extraordinaire'
incorporates achievements of 60 stalwarts across 13 areas like Medical Science,
Literature, Entertainment, Defence, Sports- giving out a wealth of information
about each one of them to the readers. The list of 60 luminaries who grace this
special edition book were drawn by the experienced panelists HK Dua,
Editor-in-Chief, Tribune (India's leading newspaper) and Professor Dipankar
Gupta, Jawaharlal Nehru University after going through very stringent selection
criteria.
Honorable Minister of Commerce and Industry, Govt of India, Kamal Nath said,
"India is a land where people dare to dream and have a story to tell. As the
line between people, places and preferences begin to blur to include a new
global reality; stereotypes about India and Indian culture are beginning to
break to form a mosaic of intriguing patterns. A new India has taken shape
through these 60 years of Independence. I salute the hard work of all Indians
who have, over these 60 years, helped build a new India. I am glad that
Coca-Cola India through the Limca Book of Records has acknowledged the
significant contributions and efforts of the 60 luminaries and has dedicated a
special edition 'Limca Book of Records-India Extraordinaire. 60 years. 60
Luminaries' as a tribute to this great country."
Selection criteria
· The first list of 200 luminaries was drawn keeping in mind:
a. The luminary should have been alive after 1947. The only exception
was Rabindranath Tagore (Penned the Indian National Anthem)
b. The luminary to have impeccable credentials
c. All fields of life should be well represented.
d. All Indian Noble Laureates to be included
· An eminent panel of HK Dua Editor-in-Chief, The Tribune and
Professor Dipankar Gupta made the choice on the final list of 60 luminaries to
be included in the special edition book.
According to Muhtar Kent, President & COO, The Coca-Cola Company, "Limca
Book of Records is a one-of-a-kind book that celebrates the extraordinary
achievements of Indians across the globe. India is one of the world's fastest
growing economies, but what really defines the country is her indomitable
spirit. The achievements of the 60 stalwarts captured in this special edition
subtly reveal the grandeur of India's 60 glorious years of Independence."
He further added that, "The Coca-Cola Company shares a long and endearing
association with India and it is our hope that India will be among our top
global markets in the future."
The special edition book begins with the pages of freedom struggle showcasing
the contributions of leaders like Mahatma Gandhi and Jawaharlal Nehru, moves on
to the literary pieces of Rabindranath Tagore and melodies of Kishore Kumar and
the business strategies of JRD Tata, and Narayana Murthy. Renowned lyricist and
poet, Gulzar, has penned the foreword for the book.
