Sony Music is taking its first big step into Tamil film
soundtracks with an A R Rahman film called Kaadhal Virus (literally
translated as love virus).

Says Mr Shridhar Subramaniam, managing director, Sony
Music India, The soundtrack of Kaadhal Virus is certainly amongst
A R Rahmans best work in the recent past and has the potential to
cross the language boundaries. And we are hoping that our
successful association with Rahman continues with this album.

Have they forgotten that Kadhal Virus was their entry into Tamil film music?
And that they released Aayitha Ezhuthu? Or that they acquired Minsara Kanavu
and Vandicholai Chinnarasu from AVM Audio?

Sony BMG forays into Tamil music market

  By Businessofcinema.com Team
30 January 2008, 09:27 PM MUMBAI: Sony BMG India is marking its
entry into the growing music market in Tamil Nadu by signing on Dhasavadhaaram.
Kollywood's leading producer and distributor V. Ravichandran's film
Dhasavadhaaram stars Kamal Hassan. The music for the film has been given by
Himesh Reshammiya. This is Reshammiya's debut in Kollywood.

Confirming the release date of his film, Oscar Films' Ravichandran said,
"Dhasavadhaaram is getting ready for a worldwide release on 10 April. It will
be released in Tamil, Telugu and Hindi simultaneously, the number of prints and
publicity campaign are being worked out."

Sony BMG India managing director Shridhar Subramaniam said, "It is a
privilege for us to enter the Tamil music market with a project as grand and
special as Dhasavadhaaram. Being associated with Kamal Hassan and V
Ravichandran in our very first Tamil project says a lot about the equity of
Sony BMG, even in the markets where our presence has not been significant till
recently."

In Dhasavadhaaram Kamal Hassan has 10 different roles, countered by the
heroine Asin's dual role in the movie. Mallika Sherawat dons an altogether
different cap in this movie. She appears as a CIA agent while Jayapradha, the
well-known character artiste, plays another important role in the movie. The
movie has been edited by Ashmith Kunder.

Also in the pipeline for Sony BMG are several non-film albums, one of which is
by Yuvan Shankar. This marks Sony BMG's foray into the as-yet unexplored Tamil
pop and non-film music space.
