Hi all, There was a news item about ARR at a mosque in Chennai, in Dina Thanthi (dt 29-8-08). I've uploaded the scan and also translated the article for non-tamil members.
Translation: The 124th year of Sandal-Urus celebration was held at Hazrat Syed Shah Ali Masthan Shaman Shah Ali Mosque at St. Thomas Mt. area in Chennai. The celebrations started with flag-hoisting on the 7th of this month. Special prayers had been going on for the past 3 weeks. Day-before-yesterday, the Sandal-Urus procession was held. This procession passed through main streets in Alandur Area. Islamic songs were sung during this. Later, at midnight, the Sandal-pot event happened. Noted music director A.R.Rahman walked in, carrying the sandal-pot. Later Sandal was presented to him. A.R.Rahman was present there with his mother and younger sister.
