For many reasons, the 1980s is considered to be the golden age of Tamil
Film Music and one of the voices that was an integral part of that age
was the exquisite voice of Jency.

As time the weary traveler plodded on, the singer found herself married
with children and settled down in Thiruvananthapuram. Her musical career
took the back seat as her family became her priority. Even then,
according to sources close to her, she had the thirst to continue
singing. As luck would have it, the singer got a call from Maestro
Illayaraja for a song. The elated Jency prepared to come to Chennai
immediately for the recording. Unfortunately, one of her children fell
ill and that delayed the singer's arrival to Chennai. Despite being
late, Jency went over to the recording studio but was met with cold
shoulders.

The disappointed singer in an interview to a magazine had stated her
desire to sing and that she was still hopeful that Illayaraja would call
her again.

Srikanth Deva read this interview and decided to give the talented
singer a break in one of the movies that he was composing for. This
gesture has come as a benediction for Jency. John Mahendran, son of
legendary director Mahendran is directing this film.

After the song recording was over, both director and music director were
heard saying that even after all these years Jency's voice had not aged.

The talented songster with many indelible numbers also expressed her
aspiration to sing for `Mozart of Madras' A.R.Rahman who was a
keyboardist then with Ilayaraja during his heydays.

It would be a mammoth pleasure not only for Jency but also for all the
Tamil music buffs if she gets to sing and recreate the same magic with
Rahman and other contemporaries too as she did in the 80s.

His Music ~ My Mother Tongue

TIDBITS ON ARR :) "It seems like, when ARR records hamornies, he gives
the pieces two hours in advance to the singers, ask them to practice
well, with what all feelings they get. And then he patiently goes for
the take. His Patience while recording makes every singer feel his/ her
responsibility."
