Jahanzeb,
Sorry, I wasn't clear. I meant to say popular with the critics. If there's a
film that's a darling of the critics then it has ended up getting lots of
nominations in other categories too. I'm guessing this is what happened with
the case of Brokeback Mountain and Babel. Anyway this is just a tangential
thought that I brought up in response to "then why are the critics nominating
it?" question.

Anand,
Nowhere did I say that I was doubting ARR's talent or not waking up to it.
I've been a fan of his from the beginning and if I were ever to harbor doubts
about his talent then I wouldn't be in this yahoogroup.
Jodha Akbar was good in the sense that it had some themes with development in
tempi and color. I wasn't fond of some sequences which were very cliched (don't
remember... perhaps the elephant taming). Anyway it's tough to debate this
without the score on a cd.
And yes, the BGM is given very little priority (and time) in our movies that
you can't expect the same kind of attention to detail and quality that's
demanded of the west. But that's a moot point that we both agree on w.r.t
Indian films.
SdM is a British film so let's judge it by those (US/UK) standards alone.

by the way how about The Dark Knight? a
movie which grossed some 530 million USD, can there be a more popular
movie than that?? but still except the best supporting actor category
it is hardly winning (in fact hardly being nominated) in any other
