Sitarist Ravi Shankar has actually done some bollywood films, some with songs, dances, melodrama and stuff, some seriously made. http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0788170/ # Gandhi (1982) # Meera (1979) (as Pandit Ravishankar) # Godaan (1963) # Anuradha (1960) ("Sanware Sanware Kahe Mose") # Kabuliwala (1956) # Vachan (1955) (lyrics: "Chandamama door ke, pue pakaye bur ke, aap khaye thali main munne ko de pyali mein") Though the songs were ok, they weren't divine by any standards and hundreds of songs of bollywood composers have given thousands of songs better than his songs in these movies. Ustad ji and myself are no one to assess who is the greatest composer. We all have our individual preferences for music. We are discussing here not the greatness but the award. And the fact is: when Ravishankar ji has done movies and his movies didn't fetch him oscar, what is the point in saying that he should have got it? It is ARR who is getting awarded and getting nominated, though I concede that this is no criteria of judging the greatest composer. -- Rawat ------------------------------------ Are you searching for a reason, to be kind? <b> Explore, Experience, Enjoy A.R.Rahman - The Man, The Music, The Magic.
