Kozhikode, Saturday 02 May 2009: The city police have thrown a tight security
blanket for the ‘Jai Ho A.R. Rahman Live in Concert’ event at the Corporation
Stadium on Sunday.
Over 2,000 policemen will be deployed for various purposes, including crowd
control, security, maintaining law and order and traffic management, said Anup
Kuruvilla John, Commissioner of Police, Kozhikode city.
Officers and policemen have been drawn up from the districts of Kasaragod,
Kannur, Wayanad, Malappuram and Palakkad. A battalion of the Malabar Special
Police (MSP) would also be deployed to deal with any untoward incident, he said.
An anti-sabotage team has been put in place to keep a close watch on the crowd.
People will allowed inside only after passing through metal detectors at the
entry points.
Spotlights and closed-circuit televisions will be installed to keep a
surveillance of potential miscreants. An exclusive control room has been
established inside the stadium, the Commissioner said.
Barricades have been erected to separate the clusters inside the stadium.
Policemen will be deployed in the middle of the barricades to prevent audiences
from creating any sort of disturbance.
Glass, plastic bottles, drugs, metal objects, cigarette lighters, matchboxes,
camera and video cameras will not be allowed inside the stadium. The gates will
open at 4.30 p.m. and close at 8 p.m. The show begins at 7 p.m. No re-entry
will be allowed. Persons under the influence of alcohol and drugs will not be
allowed inside the stadium. The police expect a crowd of 40,000.
Traffic will be regulated on the Pavamani Road, Ram Mohan Road and S.K. Temple
Road. Separate parking lots will be set up in connection with the event.
The stage, which has been set up for the show, is one of the largest ever,
built in the State. Light towers and metallic pillars have been installed in
the stadium, according to the organisers of the show.
