CHENNAI: When Academy Awards meets Grammy, can there be any doubt that
the
song<http://timesofindia.indiatimes.com/Chennai/Rahman-on-a-roll-with-Mick-Jagger/articleshow/4493043.cms#>will
rock? Double Oscar winner A R Rahman ( Slumdog Millionaire') and
Mick Jagger, the rocking lead vocalist of Rolling Stones, are set to come
together for a song to be unveiled on September 21, the United Nations'
International Day of Peace.

"Talks are underway and discussions are progressing well," confirmed sources
clsoe to A R Rahman. The Mozart of Chennai' has spent more days in Los
Angeles in the recent weeks and hectic parleys are underway. "Further talks
are needed to fine tune who is doing what," said sources.

Rahman who was in Kochi earlier this week for a felicitaiton ceremony and a
concert, is scheduled to visit the USA soon. Others set to join the project
include singer Joss
Stone<http://timesofindia.indiatimes.com/Chennai/Rahman-on-a-roll-with-Mick-Jagger/articleshow/4493043.cms#>and
Damian and Stephen , the two soms of Jamaican musician Bob Marley.
Rapper and actor Nas is also part of the team. Stone and Jagger came
together in 2004, for the
soundtrack<http://timesofindia.indiatimes.com/Chennai/Rahman-on-a-roll-with-Mick-Jagger/articleshow/4493043.cms#>of
Alfie' and, according to sources, it was a satsifactory outing on all
scores. Jagger and Joss are believed to be particularly excited about the
project, "due to the glittering line-up of the musicians proposed."

If Rahman's Chinna chinna aasai' in Roja' (1992) had the entire country
discovering a new genre of film
music<http://timesofindia.indiatimes.com/Chennai/Rahman-on-a-roll-with-Mick-Jagger/articleshow/4493043.cms#>,
millions more tuned into his music when he performed Jai Ho' at the Oscars
ceremony earlier this year. "No one else has quite been on a song as Rahman,
whose fusion of tradtional Indian
music<http://timesofindia.indiatimes.com/Chennai/Rahman-on-a-roll-with-Mick-Jagger/articleshow/4493043.cms#>with
new sounds emanating from technology has so much soul," said lyricist
Prasoon Joshi, while commenting on Rahman's music months ago. The result is
a global rhythm that has set the world of music rocking.

Rahman, whom Time magazine recently counted among the 100 most influential
people was born as A S Dileep/ He showed musical prowess even as a
seven-year-old. He effortlessly replayed the notes of a harmonium whose
frets were covered with a cloth. "He was not even eight years old then,"
recalls his mother Kareema Begum. He was all of 11 years when he debuted in
music director Ilayaraja's troupe, and opened up the magical world of
synthesiser, the guitar and the harmonium. Where else would you stumble upon
Spanish notes, hip-hop and suddenly be transported by the joyous notes of a
flute? Four-time winner of National awards, besides the BAFTA Award and the
Golden Globe, Rahman had earleir told TOI that his guiding philosophy in
life and music is Sufism, where humility is a way of life.
