Really ??? Has it come to such a low level that you are now complaining ARR to stop working in Bollywood, the only industry where he's getting some meaningful offbeat yet commercial projects?? Dude I'm from Chennai and have been brought up listening to ARR and believe me I used to hate when his beautiful music used to go waste with "Kuppai" ( trash ) movies like Mr. Romeo, Vandicholai Chinraasu, Super Police, Love Birds, TajMahal(one of my fav album), Parthale Paravasam, Baba, Udaya, Sakkarakatti, ATM..and I can go on and on. It's no brainer that he wanted to explore new territories, try new genres, new ideas, different style movies.
Only Maniratnam and Shankar were infusing new ideas into movies, the rest <snip> !!! Kathir started off well, but he ended up with another trash Kadhal Virus, SJ Surya is promising and creative though he spoils it by acting himself. KS Ravikumar, luv the combo, but again commercial, no creativity. Bharatiraja he's become old, else his first few movies were outstanding. Rajiv Menon where is he ??? I agree there r some good offbeat tamil movies coming up mostly with either Harris or Yuvan, and I'd luv to see them with AR Rahman's name as the MD, but I dunno if he's way too expensive for their budget or jus that they r in the comfy zone with other MDs, the collaboration has never happened. Its not that ARR is busy in North and so he's not working with them. I mean c'mon ARR knows what he's doing. Not you, not me. Starting with Rangeela, I've been relatively impressed with the hindi projects Rahman is being associated with. And those are without including Maniratnam's works..like Rang De Basanti, Lagaan, Zubeidaa, The Legend of Bhagat Singh, Swades, Jodhaa Akbar, Jaane Tu ya Jaane Na..and many more..there's so much of variety I see in his hindi picks, unlike the usual hero introduction, 2 duets, 1 sad song, 1 kuthu song may b and 1 amma/thangachi sentiment song. Also if many have noticed Hindi movies and their audience have evolved much faster than down south. Good movie doesn't necessarily need to be Oscar type movie / Serious movie with incredible acting / touching movie wetting your hanky's. Good movies can also b entertaining and tackling a known subject in a different way..look at Anurag Kashyap's Dev D, or Sriram Raghavan's Johnny Gaddar, or Vishal Bharadwaj's latest Kaminay..They r gr8 movies, different movies, lovable, laughable, MEANINGFUL, all along with excellent soundtracks too. I'm sure Rahman would have loved to do all of those, if given an opportunity. Anyways there's no point in justifying who is best and who is not. Atleast as ARR fans we shouldn't be the ones doing it. And if we are doing it, then we didn't understand anything about our Boss and his music. On a brighter note, his collaboration with Gautam Menon is something I'm looking forward to. Same goes with SJ Surya's Puli. Blue I am looking forward to, coz one its commercial, two its action thriller for Rahman after a long time, and three it looks trendy and upbeat. I wish he did London Dreams coz the trailer for that looked cool. So plzz friends ( Krishna Prasad and everyone who think the same way ), asking Rahman to stop making music for hindi movies is an outcry filled with stupidity and narrow-mindedness. Remember it was Taal and Dil Se which got him Bombay Dreams, which then got him Lord of the Rings Musical, Warriors of Heaven and Earth, and then Slumdog Millionaire and then the World !!
