HYDERABAD: The kind of euphoria that Oscar winner music maestro A R Rahman
generates is incredible. This was amply demonstrated on Monday evening at
Novotel Hyderabad Airport. At the venue to announce the Jai Ho concert, Rahman
mania was in full force.“It’s
a noble cause for which the concert is being held. I am happy to be a
part of it but at the same time I am also sad about YSR’s sudden demise
and the floods,” says Rahman, adding, “I hope this concert will bring
hope and joy to people of the State.’’ Funds generated from Rahman Jai
Ho concerts will go to the Chief Minister’s Relief Fund in aid of the
recent flood victims, says Rahman. The show is the second concert
as part of the events being held at various places in the country in
support of A R Rahman Foundation. The normally taciturn Rahman
did open up slightly when reporters asked him questions, but kept his
answers short, sweet and witty.Has life changed post Oscars? “Yes. Life keeps
changing,” he shot back. Which role makes him feel more comfortable, a singer
or a composer? “It’s always the uncomfortableness that makes you
better. As we become more comfortable with discomfort, so our capacity
to do big things increases.” Talking about his upcoming Hollywood movie, he
says, “Couples Retreat is a comedy that narrates the story of four diverse
couples.” Rahman is no stranger to Hyderabad.“It
is one of my favourite cities.” This is the first time that Rahman will
be performing in the city after bagging the Academy Awards for his
musical score in Slumdog Millionaire. There will be rap, fusion,
carnatic, sufi. There will be something for everyone.“This is
the first time I will be performing in Hyderabad and am really looking
forward to the concert and it all depends on how much support you guys
(media) are going to give,” says Rahman.“This year there is more focus on
conducting Indian concerts. It will have a mix of songs including tracks from
his upcoming film, Blue,” he adds. The music maestro said that he was
concentrating on India this year in organising the concerts and has avoided US,
UK, and the Middle East.“The
concert is special not only because it is in aid of a noble cause, but
also because Rahman had earlier composed tunes for the airport, while
Prasoon (Joshi) had penned the lyrics,” says Sripathy, CEO, GMR
Hyderabad International Airport Ltd.Around 50,000 music lovers

great pleasure to bring his music to the music lovers of Hyderabad, and
in our own humble way, this would be GMR’s way of felicitating the
great maestro”, says Sripathy, CEO, GMR Hyderabad International Airport
Ltd.“The concert will provide the people of Hyderabad and
