you are forgetting directors such as Ameer, Selvaraghavan, Sasikumar, Pandiraj (Pasanga), etc.....the fact is that ARR should score for some of these low-budget but high quality movies in Tamil.....rather than doing music for movies like Sakkarakkati and Silunnu Oru Kaadhal (I love these soundtracks but the movies that they are in are not that great..to say the least)...there are many exciting directors in the tamil industry....to not recognize the fact means you have not seen films such as Pasanga, subramaniapuram,. paruthi veeran, etc.
