As I think more about it, it seems more logical that CD version of
Ranjha must have been originally created to shoot on Beera's sister
and her fiance.

They were the only persons in such a kiddish, simplistic love that
would match the mood of this song. I am not saying that Bulleh Shah's
philosophical lyrics are kiddish, but the duo must have pronounced it
without understanding or meaning that sufi aspect and it would still
have come perfect.

IF SO, (I concede that it is odd that one ponders over mere
unconfirmed possibility), then why would Mani change it to shoot it on
Beera and Ragini that necessitated the transformation.

I feel it might have happened because, if shot on Beera's sister, it
would have been 3 songs in quick succession, thok de killi, this one,
and kata kata, so it would felt odd. And, because Beera was narrating
the past events, it would have sounded further odd that he mentioned a
secret meeting of his sis and the guy, and makes way for a full song.

May be Mani had thought some other storyline earlier in which this
song was still on Beera's sis but not as part of Beera recouting the
story, so it was supposed to be full and first person based.

we can never know. all flights of thoughts.
