In the movie it was sugar not salt. But I think salt won't work too. The reason 
for sugar was because it doesn't dissolve in diesel. Same goes to salt I think. 
Even The Mythbusters tested this. :)

Uhuh... But it's really something great from AR. Raavanan has really great 
BGMs... By the way, sugar in diesel engine does absolutely no harm to the 
engine actually:)
