Brian,

For a Unix/Linux install I would simply copy the script that BMC
supplies and add default values that you want. Then tell root to "just
hit return when prompted".

) It should take you almost no effort to do this.
) It should be something that you can later use to diff with future
install scripts to keep the version forward maintenance light.
) It lets root use a script to let you know exactly what they did. :)
) It allows you to look BMC in the eye and say that you did not
"modify" the script. (Yea, technically you took on string and made it
something else, but that should be a trivial "configuration for your
environment". Just do not do anything silly like entering multi-line
values. :)

Likely not an ideal answer, but it should work.

You might even go so far as to alter the script's sub that does the
user prompt and have it just use the default value passed into it.
(That should also be an easy script hack.)

Has anyone had success getting the silent install of the Mid-Tier to
work on UNIX/LINUX?
I noticed in the mt_install script numerous provisions for silent mode,
including a laundry list of environment vars it can use, but I didn't
see command line options specified anywhere.

Since I don't have root, I have to supply instructions to someone else
(non ars person) to do the patch/install. Just looking for a good way
to simplify patching in particular.
