Its kind of like when Jesse James bought a header for a car engine and the
header didn't fit.  He spent more time trying to make it fit than it would
have took him to build the thing.  In frustration he threw it across the
room and built his own.  That is how I describe the ITSM suite.  You can
waste more time, money and energy trying to make something fit that doesn't
rather than building exactly what you are looking for.  Buying is more
expensive and harder to maintain.  Building is good if you get a guy that
knows databases real well and knows what they are doing.  Building is also
cheaper.  You could almost pay someone's salary for what you are paying in
ITSM support costs. 

In my opinion buy only if it meets 95% of your requirements.  Otherwise
don't bother.  Especially don't buy if you do something as drastic as have 4
levels of categorization or change the Status menu.  Just my .02 cents.
