We had this same issue just this morning and I noticed something interesting... After installing the 7 mid-tier, in the config tool under the server settings the server showed in the list and the password column showed **** to imply that it held a password. After re-entering the password under the edit option, the column shows blank now, which would imply that there is no password entered. However, under this new state is where logging in as Demo worked.
