I would absolutely go to v7. It will give you
functionality, even apart from ITSM 7, that you will love (I can send you a .ppt
synopsis if you like). I would also use Mid-Tier v7, which will really
help performance on the web over the 6.3, which is also way better than previous
versions.

Subject: ARS Platform upgrade to 6.3 or 7.0
We currently are on
ARS server 5.1.2 Patch 1428
Oracle 9i2
Windows 2003
In the next couple of weeks we will be upgrading the Oracle database to 10g
and the ARS platform to v6.3 (original plan). The question is to those of
you with v7.0 experience now that it's been out for a bit of time, would you
recommend going directly to v7?
We are using Helpdesk 5.0 but do not intend to do an upgrade on it.
We will do a total new installation of the application chosen over the next
couple of months, either HD, ITSM or possibly ESS. We have alot of custom
forms written around HD. Our HD 5.0 is about 85% customized so an upgrade
per se is not really an option. Besides I was hoping to use this
opportunity as a sort of housecleaning of all those 'had to have' requests that
never actually were used to their potential. We are not following formal
ITIL and will not be in the near future. We actually are more of
a CSS or CRM. If we go to v7 I would hope we could
continue to run the applications without major incidents.
We'll be doing it to our development server first and then production with
two weeks because we have an active customization enhancement list.
Did anyone have any peculiar occurrences with the 9i2 to 10g
upgrade? We now have an outsourced database company we use, which is
not quite like having that dba you can just go to easily.
Patch level recommendation for v6.3?
Patch level recommendation for v7.0?
Any issues with user tool not being upgraded right away other than new
options not being available (current User 5.1.2 P1316)?
I appreciate any insights you can provide. I'd like to do dev system
by next week.
Thanks,
Susan Palmer
