I'm with you, Matt. From a process standpoint, this is one of many shortcomings of this release. I know the Sr. Product managers of this release, and they're smart people experienced with Remedy releases, so I don't know why this release wasn't as well done as previous ones. I smell a market-driven release date, rather than the technological-driven (i.e. we'll release it when it's ready) release dates we prefer. The software seems to be ok, but there are too many supporting facets that were nowhere close to ready.
When they combine no training classes for 4 months+ post release with no sample data, I have to ask (and believe me, I HAVE asked, without receiving a good answer) how exactly am I supposed to sell this software? We don't even have production VMs of ITSM 7 to demo yet. All of those things should have been ready to go before the product was released. Given that they slipped the release date significantly to release what they did, I look forward to hearing from some folks at RUG exactly what happened, with an eye towards what they're doing to avoid repeating these mistakes in future releases. An enhancement request to continue receiving what we have had for the last 3 (or 4?) versions of the software? I wonder if we will see the day that an enhancement request needs to be submitted to TRY to get something like the Set Field action back into the product? Maybe someone could request (likely via an enhancment request) that ALL removals of features be documented in the Release notes? (That is exactly something that a customer should not have to ask for.) BMC corporate appears to be moving in a strange direction when: Their purchased products do not include samples to demonstrate to the users how BMC thinks said product could be used. I really hope that the removal of the sample configuration data now requires an asterisk on the product marketing that indicates that after a fully successful install the software REQUIRES configuration before it will be functional. (Functionality being defined as being able to demonstrate all listed features of the product.) AND/OR Their tech support group is unable, or unwilling, to ship out a simple set of exported data files for their customers to use as a starting point for such a routine question. Or if BMC would prefer, take the time to walk the CUSTOMERS through the entire "basic setup" over the phone so that the CUSTOMER can actually use the product that they purchased in a way that is consistent with the marketing promises for said product. </rant> -- Carey Matthew Black Remedy Skilled Professional (RSP) ARS = Action Request System(Remedy) Solution = People + Process + Tools Fast, Accurate, Cheap....
