Sue,
This is probably because of a initial dev build bug wherein Remedy used some of the ID's in the user range.. So what you must be experiencing is that those fields created in the legal range have the same ID's as some of the fields that have to be created during the process of your installation.. If this is your problem I think Remedy did come out with a patch for that. Contact their support..
I had faced a similar problem once but luckily for me I used to use only trim fields in that immediate range that you have to create your fields from and most of my data fields are well above the range 600000000 usually.. So for me the workaround was pretty simple - delete and recreate my trim fields without loosing anything except some time...

Subject: Application upgrade 5.5 to 5.6
**
Hi,
Has anyone run into an issue while attempting an application upgrade from version 5.5 to 5.6. We downloaded the archid utility and set the environment, but we continue to get at error:
"The upgrade installer needs to modify field IDs in several application forms. However, a version of archgid utility bundled with this installation does not support AR System server version 6.03.00 patch 017. Please contact Remedy Customer Support to obtain an updated utility and instructions.
The installation cannot continue."
We are running Solaris, ARS 6.3 and version 5.5 of the applications with an Oracle database. Remedy is saying there is an issue with the script, but I can't imagine that we are the first to encounter this. Is there a workaround out there?
Any help would be appreciated, Sue
