If the "error" is really text in the normal response format then you can use later workflow (Filters) in Remedy to parse the returned results and "do the right thing". If the "Error" is some kind of "HTTP" type error, then the users will see a general message from Remedy saying that the filter action failed. (or some other non-specific text like that.) If the "Error" is an alternate XML format then .... well... I am not sure that the default Remedy Web Service consumption stuff is really setup to deal with that kind of logic. You might need to improve on that part of the system to be able to achieve the first condition above.
