Balaji,

Are you using the Mid-Tier?

I have stumbled into a condition for our dev server that could be what
your seeing. Basically if an authenticated user (to the Mid-Tier)
manages to "re-authenticate" in a strange way it can cause the ARS
server to crash. The best way I can describe this would be something
like the following (from what I have seen happen here.)

1) User logs in but home page fails to load completely. (unknown
reason as to why.)
2) User refreshes browser and ends up at the Login page.
3) I see this my ARERR log:

"
Thu Aug 10 16:16:03 2006 390620 : User is currently connected from
another machine (ARERR 9084)
Thu Aug 10 16:16:03 2006 Client already connected -

allowed

connection to the AR System server (<ARSERVER_NAME> (0) : RPC:
Miscellaneous tli error - An event requires attentionNo message of
desired type) ARERR - 90
Thu Aug 10 16:18:20 2006 Dispatch : Cannot establish a network
connection to the AR System server (<ARSERVER_NAME> (0) : RPC:
Miscellaneous tli error - An event requires attentionNo message of
desired type) ARERR - 90
Thu Aug 10 17:17:04 2006 390620 : User is currently connected from
another machine (ARERR 9093)
Thu Aug 10 17:17:04 2006 Client already connected -
username:<LOGIN_NAME>, client-type:Mid-tier,
existing-IP:69ca2eeb5ef95374:132021a:107ddf0ccbb:-7f7d,
new-IP:69ca2eeb5ef95374:132021a:107ddf0ccbb:-7f7f - User has Override
option
"

Maybe you see this just prior to the snip of log you sent?
Maybe you see something in the Mid-tier logs in the same timeline?

So far I have yet to see this behaviour on our production server, and
I have no idea why too.

Dear Listers,

I am back again for your help.

Past one week, we have been receiving the below error on our server. This
some times occur every two hours and sometimes every 10 minutes. For the
past 3 days we did not see this error, but today this is happening almost
every hour. I (and BMC Support) have analysed the SQL and API logs, but
they were not of much help!

We are on ARS 6.3, patch 17 on Oracle 9.2.0.6. (both App and DB are on the
same very high-end machine). We had escalated this to Oracle also to check
any thing on the DB level, but that is ruled out. BMC support is suggesting
us to go to Patch 18, but we are a bit skeptical about this. We were
earlier on Patch 16 and were getting this error and BMC asked us to upgrade
to Patch 17 to fix this. Even after going to Patch 17, we continue to have
this nightmare.

Can any one help? I would be glad to provide more information if required.

Thanks in advance,
Balaji
