Storing an external qual instead of using a checkbox is a different approach you can use. This will allow one set of workflow to verify any number of fields, depending on the category selected. Doesn't help with the active links though (change field/table walk is possible, but not recommended).

s. There are two parts to this. 1) As Lars pointed out you should use filters to verify that the data exists in the transaction. 2) I also think it is a good practice to add active links to give the user a clue about the dynamic condition too. I know in ARS v6.3 (not sure about v6.0.1 but poke around and see if you can find what I am talking about) the Change Field action has a way to alter the "Field Font". However i am sure that you can change the Label Color in that version. Yes the filters are the "more important" of the two, but the Active Links will help your users more. :) Keeping the two sets of logic "in sync" is a chore. Not to mention the need to also build Active Links that "undo" such changes when the user alters the Category to the "Oh yea.. I really meant <bla> not <ble>" conditions too. Hope that helps.
