Vmware (if you pay the 5K licenses L ) supports multiple processors.

2 “dual core” CPU’s in the same box = 4 CPU for example

Works OK for us in production.

If you have 2 “Hyperthread” CPU, disable “Hyperthreading” and just run with 2 CPU instead of 4.

We tested this on some HT boxes, and unless the Guest OS AND APPLICATIONS understand HT technology, stick to Dual Core or Single Core.

** vmware does allow for guests to have multiple cpu's when the host is installed on a multi-cpu machine.  Not sure how vmware handles the dual-core processors though.

I have found that a single 2.8 GHz CPU, 2 GB machine is the bare minimum
for running a full install incl. DB and all ITSM apps. BMC/Remedy

app.

For a demo system you can probably get by with only 2 GB but I would
definitely recommend a Core 2 Duo machine like the Dell Latitude D620 or
one of their mobile workstations M65/90.

Running virtual machines will introduce quite a bit of overhead, so the
more memory, the better. Someone also mentioned that MS Virtual PC does not
emulate dual processors. Not sure about VMware.
