If you are creating an ARS View form on top of an DB view/Table then I
think you simply need to tell the Admin tool what type of field you
want to use in ARS. The ARS View form wizard types the ARS fields
based on the DB column types, but you can manually do things
differently to.

In the Admin tool (with the ARS View form open) right click in the
form and select "Character" for a new ARS field to be created. You
then map the field properties to the View column that you want to map
it too.

I do not think this will cause you any headaches during query, but it
might during submit/modifies to the View form. So testing is a good
idea.
