Hi, we are just starting to look at implementing the CMDB in 7.0 but are a ways away from Production. Categorization was a recent major topic within our group as well when it referred to the telecom world (We track anything from hubs, routers, extending the cmdb to include circuits, etc).
Our decisions basically came down to the simpler we could keep things within remedy the better off it looked like we would be. For example, the deeper down in the class structure you went the more complicated it appears you will be making your reporting.
