Absolutely there would be a few gotchas, Pat. For instance, with ITSM 7,
you have to have the app. licenses in place before you install the apps. I
wouldn't take either path without a thorough review of the release notes and
installation guides, and having Support bless my approach prior to
implementation.

I have a quick question: If you follow this method,
ARS 5.12 ~~> ARS 6.01 ~~> ARS 6.3 ~~> ARS 7.0
After each upgrade check applications, to see if they are working
correctly.. etc.
Then just upgrade to the next one in a Row.
Would there be any Gotcha's with " Licensing "
or if you had the ARS 7.0 and you just pushed from ARS 5.12 ~~> 7 then
installed the licenses..

Recommendations ?

I don't think they need that for just an ARS upgrade, Roger. For ITSM, I
would agree totally.

Stephen, I think either of your scenarios would probably be ok, but would
think it safer to do the upgrade first on your non-production box (i.e.
option A), where you can do it multiple times if necessary before making it
go live. Work out the glitches and gremlins someplace where the users
aren't impacted.

I would pay careful attention to the version/patch level of ARS 7 as well.
I know that many have reported problems with 7.0.1.

If you are a Partner go throught the 7.X Installation and Configuration
Class. If you are a Customer it is highly recommended to engage a Partner to
do an in place Upgrade. There are many gotchas.

All,

I'm looking to install a new set of servers, in the midst of this we
are undertaking an ARS upgrade too (fun!) but what I want to know is
what is the fastest way to get the DB copied from old DB server to new
DB server should I do:

a) install ars 6.3, copy the db across from old server to new at db
level, then upgrade to 7.0
b) install 7.0, copy db across

Which would be best? and are there any gotchas.

Current platform:

Oracle 9.2
Solaris 9
ARS 6.3 patch 18

New platform:

Oracle 10gR2
Solaris 9
ARS 7.0.1

Comments and suggestions greatfully recieved.

Thanks
Stephen
