We just ran into this exact issue/challenge ourselves and decided to bite the bullet and get additional licenses. Luckily we were reallocating a bunch of our Fixed licences to floating to help save a large sum of money for ourselves which allowed us to covert to more AR floating licenses.
I was always under the impression that you aren't given a write license until you actually do a write. We're looking at changing our Floating License Timeout to our current setting of 2hrs, to 1hr.
