Should I upgrade both Oracle server and client version OR just Oracle client
will be OK?

Set the environment variables appropriately (ORACLE_HOME, ORACLE_SID,
ORACLE_BASE, PATH, etc.)
Update ar.conf file to point to the new oracle home.
