Hi Kevin, Jason,

Your observations around BIRT reporting are true. Yes, one reason is
introduction of Smart Reporting – we are more focused on enhancing Smart
Reporting capabilities and we don’t want to spread too thin enhancing multiple
reporting technologies simultaneously.

However the other factor why we are not investing in BIRT based reporting
significantly is the fact that customers have also expressed lack of advanced
reporting capabilities in BIRT reporting – ‘it’s too simple’, ‘lacks
flexibility’ ‘not suitable for self-service’. So with BIRT, there are too big
gaps to bridge and make it more usable.

Having said all of this, the good news is we are evaluating support of recent
BIRT versions in future Remedy releases (as recent as BIRT 4.8 version).
However since this is ‘future’ version, BMC doesn’t allow to talk about
specific timeline publicly.

To reiterate, we will be more focused on Smart Reporting in the long run -
enhance BMC Remedy Smart Reporting with additional use cases and content. Our
goal is to work toward technology convergence so that customers have one
powerful reporting and analytics solution.

Hope this helps.

Regards,
- Rahul

Subject: Re: BIRT Version

Unfortunately from what I am seen (based on actions not words) the road map for
mid-tier related things is pretty dim. I doubt BMC is going to put any effort
into updating BIRT since there is Smart Reporting. And while you and I both
understand Smart Reporting doesn't fill all the gaps (being able to control the
layout of a report for one) I am not sure BMC is aware of this (or cares if
they are). The future is Smart IT (which also doesn't fill all the gaps), we
all best get on the bandwagon.

Is version 2.5.1 of BIRT still the only supported version for BMC Remedy 18.x
or is the newest version of BIRT supported? If not, does anyone know if that
is in the roadmap to work with newer versions of BIRT OR even if BIRT will
continue to be supported? We have built custom forms in BIRT that get populated
with data from a CRQ to autofill our release packages into a pdf. I am trying
to figure out if our custom BIRT forms will continue to be supported or not.

Thanks
