Hello,
We are working on a HD 4.0 to HD 6.0 migration, which includes
attachments to CHG:Change tickets. We are exporting from ARS 4.0.3 on an
NT 4 server and importing into ARS 6.3 on a Windows 2003 server. We
initially could not get the attachments imported.
Someone else on the project finally figured out, or was informed,
that the arx file created by the WUT 4.0 contained a fully qualified
directory name to which the attached files had been exported and that
ARImport 6.3 wanted that directory as a relative path based upon the
directory which contained the arx file being loaded.
What they did was to edit the arx file created by the WUT 4.0 to
remove the "high-order" portion of the fully qualified name. An example
directory name, presuming that the arx created by the export, with
attachments, was located in c:\temp\chg, for the location of the
attachments is c:\temp\chg\xxxxxxx (where xxxxxxx is a number which we
could not determine how it got assigned). The arx file contained
something like the following for references to the attachments, e.g.
attachment1.doc.
C:\\temp\\chg\\xxxxx\\attachment1.doc. I think WUT and arimport
essentially escape the directory delimiter (\) so that in the arx file
it became (\\).
The person which is controlling this portion of the migration
opens the arx using an editor (e.g. WordPad) and uses the Replace all
capability with something like
Find what: C:\\temp\\chg\\xxxxx\\
Replace With: xxxxx\\
After the edit, the entry for attachment1.doc in the arx file,
would resemble xxxxx\\attachment1.doc

Janet,
When you set up your import using the Import Tool, match the names/ids
of the server side attachment field with the file side attachment field
using the export file containing the rest of the data other than the
attachments.

Does anyone know how to import attachments with the import tool? I have
started a cutover and this is the first time we have had attachments.
When I saved the report it gave me a directory to use in the import but
I don't see the field ID of the attachment fields.
Thanks,
Janet Mahan
