The bottom line is that it would have to be something that resided on the client. Can you imagine the client/server traffic involved if it had to have workflow or a DB trigger update a field every time a character was typed? Perhaps the easiest workaround would be to size your field to exactly the field length of it. That would at least give the users a visual cue as to how much more they could type. Rick _____
