I had a slightly different variation:  in going from 5.1.2 to 7.0.1,
we had to stop at 7.0.0 first.  This was due to a known error (per
support).  We also had problems with forms displaying fields that the
db did not have.  We exported the form, deleted the form, re-imported
the form, and thus were able to sync ARS and the DB in that the number
(and type) of fields listed in the admin tool (or the .def file)
matched what was returned via SQL Plus.

I just finished  working on a CMDB 1.1 patch 4 installation that twice
failed due to incomplete installers downloaded from the support site.
