I sure hope the Windows installers are eventually updated to the same
functionality as the ones for Unix.

Here is another approach to applying a server patch where you only want
to install new files but not update any forms or workflow (with SQL
Server).

1. Stop the Remedy services
2. Detach the ARSystem database in SQL Enterprise Manager
3. File copy the ARSystem data and log files to another folder
4. Attach the ARSystem database in SQL Enterprise Manager
5. Run the Remedy installer in Upgrade mode
6. Stop the Remedy services
7. Detach the ARSystem database
8. Copy the backup data and log files on top of the ones just updated by
the Installer
9. Attach the ARSystem database
10. Start the Remedy services

Thanks, Jenni for the tip. This will probably help many people on the
list.

The command is for a Unix installation and is on page 221 of the ARS 6.3
Installation manual.

I think our assumption is correct, there is no similar command (at least
that I have found in any of the manuals) for the Windows environment.
Unless, using the Share option yields the same results.

We have to upgrade Email and Flashboards. Unfortunately, the related
forms are updated there as well. I don't think there is a "Share"
option for Email and Flashboards.

Sigh,
Michelle

The only form we saw any changes to was the AR System Email Messages
form. But I believe that was updated when we installed the Email Engine
patch 020. I didn't add the -noschemas to that install command.

Jenni,

With this installation option, are you saying that no forms were
modified in any way, or just the User and Group forms were not modified?

We used the following command when installing ARS patch 020 via the
installer on our AIX server. It worked great:

./ar_install -noschemas

We had a smooth, successful patch install without messing up permissions
or anything else on the User and Group forms. I don't know if there is a
comparable function for Windows servers.

Derek:

Thank you so much for reminding me to look at one more thing. Yep,
permissions are stripped on our User/Group forms as well. We also used
the installer.

Like, I mentioned in another post we received conflicting information on
what the "upgrade" option is supposed to do. But, I distinctly remember
upgrading systems in the past that did not strip existing permissions.
Could I be the only one who has this memory?

Thanks again for your input.

This specific environment is running Oracle 9i Release 2 and Solaris 8.
Everything else seems to check out from a testing purpose. It's only
the AR System Business Time calculations that are giving us pause.

We upgraded, via the installers from ARS 6.0.1 patch 1414 and the only
problems we had were the User/Group forms were stripped of permissions -
on all six servers that were upgraded. Aside from that, we didn't
encounter any of the form corruption that has been reported on the list.

                Hi, Derek:

This is very good information. But, since a few posts have been
flying around about the application-bus-time-diff run process, I was
curious about your environment information. As you know, there are many
variables that play into this DST thing.

You already said that your environment was patched, but what is
your environment?
        Operating System? Database?
