I am not passing quotes with the $DATE$. 
 
I am just passing $DATE$ to date field.

        I am using Date field on a form and setting the default value as 
Current System 
        Date ("$DATE$") to this field. 
        But when i am opening the form from user tool its not showing the 
system date 
        and showing as  $DATE$ text.
         
        Please suggest.
