I dont remember with what I had done that.. it probably might be with the AR ODBC though that I switched client dll's to use an unsupported version of Crystal.. it worked with that but then again that was worth the risk as it was only reading the database.. As you pointed out you don't want things to go wrong when you are writing to the database..

You can use the dlls with the product against a 5 (or 6 or 7) server. A product is compiled against a set of libs which have the version number in thier name (except on some releases of the Unix APIs), so you cannot "switch" dlls. Worse still, as the release number is not included in the file name on Unix (unlike the UNIX conventions), using the wrong DLL (.so) often causes segmentation faults.
