Hi Mike,
   Which version of CMDB are you using?

In some older versions I've seen situations where A CI involed in a 
relationship has
been deleted, but the Relationship Instance itself still exists....this 
Relationship
record is effectivley pointing to a non-existent CI, hence Recon complains that 
it
can't find something...

You can write some SQL to verify if you have any Relationship instances which 
have
been "orphaned". This would be the first step of analysing why Recon might be
throwing this error. I can give you some suggestions on how to do this, but the
statements would have be a little different for different versions of CMDB.
