The issue is purely ECommerce..
ISO --- is attempting to cut through any countries standards, and
universalize it.. with a cookie cutter..
International Standards -- Then once a couple of big Co. sign up.. then they
leverage that and say
"Well if you want to do business with us... Then become compliant.. "
Which is a really Dis-Information. They were the first Sold the bill of
good, hook line and sinker.. and they are being used to get everyone else to
anty up. All in the name of ECommerce.

Look at Walmart.. you cannot buy or sell anything without a Chip implanted
into each product. it hits the warehouse and scan it.. and voila.. they know
how many there are.. they do not need to do a count and some are not
missing. Similar in aspect..
But folks will disagree with my conclusion and listen to the party line
instead.

do not currently use CMDB.

I just think it's one of the latest buzzwords. IT managers hear these
grandiose stories about these new management/process techniques at
conferences and via sales presentations and then jump all over them.
They get very hot for awhile, people in the trenches realize it's smoke
and mirrors, and they go away...only to be replaced by the next great
thing.

BMC has some sales presentation they refer to as "training" where they
have managers attempt to "manage" an airport using their "current
know-how." Sure enough, the managers lose money in the exercise. Then
they have the managers apply the ITIL techniques they're selling and
voila! They turn a profit. People just eat that stuff up.

I still do not see the point in something like ITIL. Although to be
honest I am not very familiar with its particulars, just the concept. Is
there something I'm missing?

http://www.isoiec20000certification.com/certification/index.asp

"Any organisation is able to claim compliance with an industry
standard such as ISO/IEC 20000 and may put such claims in their
documentation and other collateral.

However, it is clearly more valuable for such claims to be
independently verified as part of a formal certification scheme. ISO
9000 and BS 7799/ISO 17799 are examples where such certification
schemes have already been established."

So, to answer your question; it 'can' be expensive.
