I'm afraid to admit it, but in 1999 during our conversion from V10
Clarify to Remedy 4.0.3 applications I had to write the export / import
(data migration) process.

Clarify is (was I should say) a highly related data-model, instead of
the flatter-model of ITSM (you mentioned 6.3 so I assume 6.0
applications?) the nice thing about Clarify was it shipped with the
COMPLETE Data Model for all "Applications" (Incident, Change, Logistics,
SLA..) so it all depended on what the 'user' was licensed for and they
would see... As with most applications it could run on any database and
any OS type. And Yes, Clarify went through the 'dark years' like Remedy
did with Peregxxxxxxxx, sorry I cannot even type the name :(, in where
Nortel bought Clarify and did nothing with it, and then sold it for
pennies on the dollar to AMDOCS.

When doing the data-migration code it was easier to code in Perl than to
try anything else. (we were going from Solaris+Oracle to Windowz+SQL 6)
I'm working remotely for a few days and the old-perl is on a CD in the
office (hopefully it is still there :)...

HOWEVER...

Doing it again today, I would also consider constructing a view inside
Clarify DB that does all the joins for you (Incident to People, Site,
Company, xxx - with what ever data you need), and then create a view
form in Remedy to pull the data from.

Also, as an option, in '99 they were doing their 2nd release of Web
Services, so if you have that deployed on Clarify, you could potentially
access the data from that point as well.

So as you can see, there are multiple options, based upon what you had
deployed with Clarify... Web services might be the easiest 'foreign
connector' so to say...

Subject: Export from Clarify, Import to Remedy

Howdy,

I've heard of Clarify but know very little about it, and can't find much
info on the web.

We want to export or dump the existing trouble tickets from a Clarify
system, and import them into Remedy 6.3. I can only speculate that
Clarify has something similar to "Export" in Remedy User - if so, what
is the export format(s)? OTOH if we can't even get a CSV file out of
Clarify, what type of database(s) does it use?

Looking through the ARSList archives, I see that a few people have asked
about Clarify/Remedy integration, but we don't need anything so fancy,
this is a one-time import.

Unfortunately I don't know if Clarify has different "flavors" like
Remedy (e.g. Help Desk, Asset Management, home-grown custom apps etc.)
I am told that the system in question is "not out-of-the-box Clarify"
which, based on what little I know, seems unusual.

Am I correct that the Clarify product is now called Amdocs Support? Not
having much luck with this at amdocs.com.

Thanks in advance.
