First this is an email excerpt that I received from Lenny Warren,
concerning my inquiry to him about RAC/RSP/RADD/...

This response is OLD as it is from March 2006, so the contact
information might be out-dated... I sure know the references to 5X is
way old...

Here is the website that you can go to that will give you the roadmap
(course requirements for our two certification classes). You will find
the links right above the table that goes into the road map discussions
for Administrator, Developer, etc.

http://www.remedy.com/solutions/services/education/Roadmaps/AR_System_6x
.html

As for the test, RAC is for product partners and RSP is for non-product
partners. So you have to see which one you fall into.

If you are under the RSP requirements, then you can contact Renee
Freitas at 925-469-4092 to sign up for the program and see where you
stand as far as what training classes you may need - like the What's New
course. This test is a two part test - 2-hour written test and a 3 1/2
Development exercise exam. The Development part is taking an existing
application and modifying it based on what we want you to do.

If you are under the RAC requirements, then you can contact Dawn King at
925-469-4000 (ask for Dawn or Renee). This test involves several
sections - with 40% of the score coming from Design and 35% coming from
Development. One cannot just walk in and take this test without having
some idea of RADD and PTT under their belt, along with Development
experience (which you have since doing AR since 3.X).

As for my last email, there is an example RSP/RAC document that gives
you various applications that you can choose from. If you are under
RSP, you take any of the applications and build the product from the
requirements given. If you are RAC, then design the application first
using the Design Template sheet from the Worksheet folder that I send
out. Then when that is done, develope the application. When all is
said and done, then send me the results to review.

There is an ITSM Certification but that is set to ITSM 5.6 and not 6.0.
However, that certification is being modified to merge into the existing
RAC test.

There is a CSS Certification but that has been turned over to Column IT
to redevelope and present since we do not get a high demand for it.

I agree with everyone's responses about RAC/RSP certifications, just
because you are "Book Smart" still means you can be "Street St&^$d"...
However I am not saying that all certifications are "bad", but tests are
just that, tests. Also someone that was certified on Version 5, must
keep their certification current, or it becomes useless. (then more $
for more classes and more time spent...)

When we hire/contract anyone for any position, we always consider their
"experience over certifications".

We __ALWAYS__ provide technical interviews (just questions, what if's,
matched to what they 'said' they can do, etc), and then the scrubbed
list of contenders __ALWAYS__ gets put through practical exercises, to
show that they can demonstrate what they communicated that they had
skills in. And these exercises are not always just the "go do", but also
test their "thinking on their feet", in where we provide
'conflicting/incomplete requirements' and see what they do. If they just
develop to the conflicts/incomplete without questioning, they are scored
lower than someone who questions!

It is very sad when you see someone who indicates they have "years of
Remedy Development experience", and the requirements document does not
specify any "permissions", and the admin tool on the sandbox is set to
have 'no default permissions for anything'... and they continue to click
OK on the dialog "only administrators have permissions to..."

Subject: RAC / ATS

Hi,

A request to those of you who have appeared for RAC / ATS Certificate
courses from BMC or is aware of it.

1. Could you please tell me what is the course pattern and examination
pattern ?
2. How long each ?
3. Which version ? ARS 7.0.1 or 6.3 ? (Say in May 2007)
4. Descriptive Answers for Questions or Objective Questions ?
5. For the application development exercise in RAC , do they provide a
PC with Remedy installed ready for us to develop an application ?
So, I don't have to carry a laptop, do I ?
6. Found an arslist thread on ATS. Thanks to Hall Chad - chahal. Do RAC
candidates also have access to web/books during
   the course ?
7. Is RAC an examination from day 1 or does it have training class(es)
too ?
8. Should the application developed for RAC touch all the features
offered by Remedy such as API,Flashboards, host Web Services & consume
with a .NET/Java Application,Incoming Email engine, customize .css ...?
Or would it be on core ARS?
9. RAC: Would the application allotted to us be technically complex ,
say for ex., Financial Accounting System or a general topic like
Purchase Order Module ?
10. RAC: Should I submit a Requirements Spec, Technical Design document,
unit test cases to instructor before proceeding with the development ?
11. RAC: Should I bear in mind to limit the scope of my
requirements/design to what I can complete in the given time
without trying to be over-ambitious ?
12. Any other useful tips ?

Thanks in advance.
