I think it was a waste of time/money since most of the questions were not
answered and could not cover SLM etc.

Tom, I just took this class, and in all fairness to BMC, did not have the same
experience that you did. Our installs were pretty much done by EOD Tuesday,
and we had some time left over Friday after going through the config stuff. By
not installing the DSL until the second (or subsequent) application install, it
really sped things up. I really think a lot of it comes down to the
instructor, and when the course was/is taken - it's in a constant state of
improvement.

I would like to see some UNIX environments at least discussed more, too, but
that's hard to do in a classroom setting.

I would not recommend the class at all. I took it and spent three days just
doing the installs. The lecture was not in line with what we were doing the
lab's on as the installers took forever to complete. And this is with brand
new machines with 4GB's of memory. The class was geared for someone that needs
their hand held during an install. Plus, it was all Windows based installs,
which does nothing for someone that runs Solaris and Sybase.

The course material consists of two thick books. We ended up doing the last
book in 1 1/2 days. I wanted more "config" than installing. We did not have
any time to "see what this does" in the lab. They need to have this class
broken up into two different classes. If they want to continue to do it this
way, then they need to somehow "fake" the installs by doing it via a flash
program, and have the products already installed on the system. Applying the
DSL data took a 1 1/2 days!

I know, not on your topic of getting people to go to the class, but I would
save your money for another class.
